8/13/2010 10:44 AM| Moving Forward in Worship |
Last week I had the privilege of meeting with the Trinity worship team. We all recognize the tremendous talent they share with us each Sunday. But they are also a group with a tremendous passion for God and their service to Him. I am so thankful for this team of people who are faithfully committed to Be the Church and lead us into God's Presence. 8/5/2010 2:16 PM| An Opportunity to Share Christ! |
Since most of my people contact is with Christians, I have to intentionally seek out connections with unchurched people. This week I had the privilege of sharing my faith with a guy I’ve been building a relationship with. We work out at the same fitness center. Until a week ago, communication had been very limited. Then our paths crossed at a community event. The friendship expanded as I met his wife and little girl. Yesterday the Lord opened the door for an hour long conversation about faith. I’m excited to see how God leads next! 7/29/2010 4:24 PM
Trinity sent two groups out this last week; one group of 30 children and adult counselors to kids camp and one group of teens and sponsors on a missions trip to Toronto. Both of these groups are prime examples of Trinity outreach. Over half of the kids that went to kids camp are a direct result of our summer outreach ministries! The Toronto team is expressing God’s love by ministering to the homeless. Trinity people make me proud (in an appropriate, spiritual way, of course). 7/26/2010 1:25 PM
Last week, we invited the Trinity young adults (approximately ages 20-32) to our home to get their perspective on the church as we move forward. 25 of the 40+ Trinity people in that age group came. I was so encouraged to hear their passion for community and mission as well as their positive spirit. What an awesome group of people! With people like that, Trinity’s most effective ministry days are just ahead. 7/16/2009 11:09 AM| Young birds aren not very bright! |
Somehow a bird found its way into one of our childcare classrooms. I'm not sure who was more frightened, the kids or the bird. Getting the kids out of the room was the easy part. Expelling the bird wasn't so easy. Although I've seen many birds try to fly through closed windows, this one had no concept of an open window. The poor thing exhausted itself flying in every direction except the window. I spent half an hour coaxing, shoo-ing, guiding & coercing the bird out of a classroom.
I think there's a lesson here. How often do we wear ourselves out trying to do everything in our power to accomplish our goals instead of listening to the One who is trying to guide us? 4/8/2009 9:02 AMThanks to our great worship team that presented The Last Supper last Sunday morning. Wow, what an impact! Each disciple shared their experience with the Master and responded to his claim that one of them would betray Him. They each were confronted with the possibility that it could be them. What a great challenge for each of us to examine our own commitment to discipleship. It also was a thrilling opportunity to invite unbelievers to become disciples of Christ. I can't wait until Easter! 2/11/2009 10:30 AMPaula and I had the privilege of a week of vacation. We travelled to San Diego and visited my mom and pop on both ends of a five day cruise to Baja California. Our son, Claton and his wife, Renee invited us to join them for the cruise. We had a wonderful time of relaxation and visit with family. We feel blessed and refreshed and are excited to be back home in Indiana. It's great to minister to people that we are excited to come home to. 1/31/2009 9:15 AMLast month I risked something I've never done before. I invited a few friends who have been partners in ministry with me over a period of several years to evaluate me. It was a variation of the typical strengths/weaknesses assessment. The variation is that I asked not just what was I weak at (unfortunately I know that pretty well) but what do you see in me that keeps me from fulfilling God's best in me. And not just what are my strengths, but what do I need to capitalize on in order to fulfill God's best in me. Then I asked for the last 10%. What are the hard things to say that you'd prefer to avoid saying? What are you holding back because you don't want to hurt me? You know that verse about "faithful are the wounds of a friend"? Boy do I have faithful friends! God has used those evaluations to convict, challenge, encourage and energize me. It may be one of the most life-altering spiritual disciplines I've ever done. 1/31/2009 8:59 AMYou know those times when God is up to something but you can't totally define it? That's where I am right now. I don't know that I've ever been so confident that God is working in both my life and the life of Trinity. I am in an exciting place, both externally (as pastor of Trinity) and internally (a heart of expectation). God has used a recent indepth soul-searching and personal evaluation to challenge me into some significant personal spiritual growth. Growing in Christ can be so exciting and so scary at the same time! 12/31/2008 1:51 PM| Taking it to the next level |
Before the Christmas season, 12 weeks were devoted to unfolding three value themes: Prayer, Worship and Outreach. Trinity people enthusiastically embraced those three themes as our battle cry for the future. Now it's time to take it up a notch. Over the next 4 weeks we'll be challenged to put our money where our mouth is. That's right, I'm going to blatantly talk about stewardship. If our commitments don't match our values, we've got nothing more than platitudes. 1
